The site sits below Forest Middle Top Lock (No. 55) and is accessed by crossing the lock and descending a set of steps. It lies between the villages of Ranby and Retford, with Ranby approximately 3 miles southwest and Retford about 4 miles southeast.

- The site is between Ranby and Retford. Ranby is a small village, approximately 3 miles away to the south west, which has a waterside pub. Retford is a small canalside town, approximately four miles away to the south east, where services including a post office, banks, restaurants and pubs are available.
The access lane is beside the Canal Bridge off Old London Road, which is off the A620.

- The majority of the facilities listed can be found adjacent to the lock, beside the parking area. The refuse disposal point is beside the turning point in the parking area. Please note, that the parking area and waste disposal point is managed and controlled by the local waterway team. The water point is above the lock.
This is a leisure site and is determined by us to be a mooring site for the storage of boats between leisure use, customers may well spend weekends on this site, and occasionally longer periods, but it is not sold as, or intended to be suitable for long term residential use. This site does not have local authority planning consent for residential use, neither does it have the level of facilities and service expected of such a mooring. As such the offer that we have is only intended to meet the needs of a leisure boater.
