Buckby Moorings are situated at the top of the five rise flight of locks on the Grand Union Canal in the small village of Long Buckby, Northamptonshire.
The site is set in open countryside. Close by is Norton Junction where the GU Leicester Line branches off to the north. Being in the heart of the canal network moorers have a vast choice of cruising routes whether for a weekend or longer.
The tranquil site is approximately 225m long and provides space for up to 12 vessels moored against the off-side bank.
The site is accessed from the A5 Watling Street where it crosses the Grand Union at Bridge 11. Steps from the bridge lead down to the path in front of the New Inn Pub.
The moorings are through an unlocked gate. There is a second unlocked gate at the end of the mooring site, next to Norton Junction (the junction of the Grand Union Main Line and the Leicester Line).
The mooring site is just above Buckby Top Lock, Lock 7. Long Buckby village is approximately 2.5 miles to the north east, whilst Daventry is within 3 miles to the south west.
Although there are no services immediately on site, there are good facilities on the off-side of the canal, next to Buckby Top Lock. Facilities, including elsan and refuse disposal, toilet and water are shared with other boaters and the general public. There is also a drinking water tap opposite the moorings, on the off-side of the canal. The aforementioned facilities are provided by and under the control of the local waterway, they do not form part of the mooring agreement.
There is a small visitor car park next to Top Lock, however, long stay parking is not allowed. Therefore, mooring customers must make their own arrangements.
The site is 200 metres long, with a stone towpath running along its full length.
This is a leisure site and is determined by us to be a mooring site for the storage of boats between leisure use, customers may well spend weekends on this site, and occasionally longer periods, but it is not sold as, or intended to be suitable for long term residential use. This site does not have local authority planning consent for residential use, neither does it have the level of facilities and service expected of such a mooring. As such the offer that we have is only intended to meet the needs of a leisure boater.
The mooring site has no restrictions and can be viewed at any time
