Great Bedwyn L1 Leisure

Great Bedwyn is a small village on the Kennet & Avon Canal and River Dun in Wiltshire.

The Canal & River Trust provides 22 mooring spaces in the area, both above and below Church Lock. Below the lock, the mooring site extends for approximately 275m and provides space for 10 craft moored on the off-side bank. We recently carried out some works on these moorings to replace some of the old timber platforms with new ones. Further works are likely to be undertaken in the coming months to provide more soft-bank protection.

Additional Information

Facilities, including a car park, pump-out, water point, elsan and a refuse compound can be found within the main car park area, below Church Lock (on the towpath side, opposite the moorings). These facilities are not a dedicated facility for the Great Bedwyn mooring customers, as they are open for use by passing boats, as well as other canal users. The facilities listed are provided by and under the control of the local waterway, they do not form part of the mooring agreement.

There is a large car park by Bridge 95, Great Bedwyn Bridge, and a smaller car park by Bridge 97, Mill Bridge. These car parks are for public use so spaces for moorers cannot be reserved or guaranteed.

Access is from the main car park by Great Bedwyn Bridge (95) along the towpath towards Church Lock (64). These moorings are on the off-side of the canal, to the east of Church Bridge (96) and through a wooden gate.

This is a leisure site and is determined by us to be a mooring site for the storage of boats between leisure use, customers may well spend weekends on this site, and occasionally longer periods, but it is not sold as, or intended to be suitable for long term residential use. This site does not have local authority planning consent for residential use, neither does it have the level of facilities and service expected of such a mooring. As such the offer that we have is only intended to meet the needs of a leisure boater.
