Stoke Bardolph Lock L1 is set in a peaceful rural spot east of Nottingham, on the non-tidal River Trent. The site lies beside a bypass weir and mature woodland planted after the lock’s construction in 1927. Access is via the A612 to Burton Joyce, then Station Road over the level crossing, onto Stoke Lane past the Ferry Boat Inn. Turn left into the small turning circle, proceed through the metal gate (CRT key required), over the cattle grid, and follow the lane for approximately 750 metres to the car park. From there, walk along the towpath, cross the lock gates, and follow the woodland path down steps to the mooring site.

To reach the site, take the A612 to Burton Joyce. Turn into Station Road and proceed over the level crossing and follow Stoke Lane until you reach the Ferry Boat Inn. Continue a short distance then turn left in to the small turning circle and proceed through the metal gate (CRT standard key is required), over the cattle grid and along the lane approx. 750 metres until you reach the parking area. Please note, there is no vehicle access beyond the parking area. You must walk along the towpath, crossing Stoke Bardolph Lock gates, follow the woodland path across the island and down a number of steps at the waters edge to the mooring site which is on the back water near the weir.

Facilities & Services

  • A water point is located on the lock approach.
  • The refuse disposal point is situated in the corner of the car park.
  • Elsan disposal and/or waste bins are provided by and under the control of the local waterway and do not form part of the mooring agreement.

Car Parking

An open car park is provided by the local waterway. Moorers may use it, but they do not have any priority over other users at this site.

Important Notes

  • Customers wishing to secure a mooring must first gain full approval from the Canal & River Trust confirming that their craft is suitable for this site. This is due to the high freeboard depth from coping edge to water level.

  • This is a leisure mooring site intended for the storage of boats between periods of leisure use.
  • Customers may spend weekends or occasional longer periods on site.
  • The site is not sold or intended for long‑term residential use.
  • The site does not have local authority planning consent for residential occupation.
